When having a document or book proofread, there are two main methods: digital markup on a PDF and BSi marks on hard copy. Each has its benefits.
Digital markup
Digital markup allows for quick corrections with features like comments, highlighting and strikethroughs. It’s efficient, enables clear communication and makes revisions easy for authors or typesetters to manage.
BSi marks on hard copy
This is the traditional method – with symbols marked on a hard copy (or printed page) to indicate the corrections that need to be made. Although BSi marks are less common today, those of us who learned them developed a keen focus on accuracy and an ability to give precise and helpful instructions to typesetters.
Choosing your method
The choice between digital or hard copy proofreading depends on personal preference and the needs of the document. Both methods effectively improve your final product.
